This a major accomplishment in healthcare and we all hope it means an end in sight for the COVID-19 pandemic, however there are still some reservations by many on the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine. This week we will cover some of the frequently asked questions as well as provide resources where many more answers can be found. Anti-Fatigue Matting: Safety Topics - February 2021 - week 1 Standing for long periods of time may be required based on the nature of your work but it would have long term detrimental effects to your body if proper steps are not taken to reduce the impact. Anti-fatigue matting is a popular choice to reduce the effects of long periods of standing on the body but unless implemented properly, can lead to other hazards or serve no real benefit. This week we are going to look at the health risks of standing for long periods, when, where and what types of anti-fatigue mats should be used and other measures that can be implemented in the workplace to lessen the risks.

Located south of the Tropic of Capricorn, within 37 and 47 degrees, New Zealand features a maritime climate that creates moderate, enjoyable weather. Separated into North and South, both Islands feature mild temperatures, plenty of sunny days and only moderate rainfall. New Zealand's climate is controlled by its main geographical features, the sea and the mountains. In the North Island, the weather tends to be more subtropical, particularly in summer. With much of the country situated close to the coast, New Zealand weather tends to experience moderate temperatures, an abundance of sunshine and only average rainfall. In the South, inland alpine regions see temperatures drop as low as -10°C in winter. However this doesn't prevent visitors from enjoying New Zealand, in fact quite the opposite! Visitors flock to New Zealand in the winter to experience this spectacular alpine playground. Snow season means white-capped peaks, fun and plenty of adventure. The New Zealand ski season generally begins in early June, depending on weather conditions and snow fall, and runs for approximately 130 days, ending around mid-October.

This is an efficient way of reducing data quantity while maximising useful information. Once weather pattern characteristics are understood, in terms of their climatologies or impacts, it then becomes relatively easy to interpret forecast output and describe likely consequences. Decider The Met Office has a probabilistic weather pattern forecasting tool called Decider. This forecasting tool assigns ensemble members to the closest matching pattern definition, from the set of 30 only. Ensemble member assignments are carried out separately for each day in the forecast period, allowing short-lived (transitionary) weather patterns to be identified. Forecast probabilities are based on the number of ensemble members assigned to each pattern. Probabilities for the set of 8 patterns are derived by aggregating up probabilities from each of the 30 patterns, depending on which of the 8 patterns they are mapped to. These forecasts are used routinely by Met Office meteorologists to assist them in producing Long range weather forecast.
