The Weather Channel wants men to put down the iPad and get their plump rumps into the great outdoors. And they're not mincing words: the new show is called "Fat Guys in the Woods. " Survival expert Creek Stewart will lift three sedentary males out of their couch indentations and plop them into the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee for one week, during which they will battle "frigid and unpredictable weather" (that's the part that makes the show on-brand apparently) and learn how to survive with "little or no mass-made camping tools, " according to a release from the network. They have ordered eight episodes. " Fat Guys in the Woods is an adrenaline-filled — and often hilarious — look at the battle between man vs. nature as these typical guys bravely choose to eliminate modern luxuries and learn what their fathers and grandfathers knew — how to survive without access to the drive-thru, " said TWC president David Clark. On one hand, Naked and Afraid is also a thing that exists on TV — on the Discovery Channel, no less — so why pan TWC when a low bar has been set?

What started as a combination of personal curiosity and a lifelong habit of record-keeping—"I have the Philadelphia Phillies baseball statistics from 1961, if you want that, " billy told me—has evolved into an invaluable source of data for scientists of all stripes. Cited in numerous academic publications, billy's data has proved especially useful for those studying the effects of climate change. He took a break from his work at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory to speak with National Geographic about winter watching (and what to do when you get tired of winter watching). Okay, so why do you write your name in lowercase? That's totally meaningless. When I got here in '72 I had a roommate that did that, so I tried it with my name, and it just looked much more comfortable. It felt more like me than these big B's that stand out. I just started doing it, and then got used to it. Why did you decide to stay in Gothic? I was very stressed out. I wasn't a very happy person. It wasn't like, "Oh, I'm cured, I got here, everything's wonderful, " but I knew the second I got here—I felt more calmness.
Watch Fat Guys in the Woods: For thousands of years, man lived wild. He made fire, built shelter, and hunted food with his own two as he got smarter, his waist got bigger. Now, it's time to get guys off of the couch and into the weather on TWC's "Fat Guys in the Woods. " The Weather Channel's Survival Expert, Creek Stewart, will train these men in how to build shelter, start fire and hunt with nothing but their bare hands, and maybe a condom or a gum wrapper. Three men, one week and one objective: to learn the skills that make a man... a man. This show is not about making fun of fat guys. It's about giving regular Joes the chance to do something they've only seen done by Brad Pitt-types. These guys may not... 🌟 6. 50 / 10 from 131 users

That's in 44 years of records. And 47 percent of my record lows are from the first ten years I did this. These are trends. Same thing with snow pack. We have eight days less of snow on the ground than we used to. When you talk about plants and animals, that can be significant, especially in high altitudes. It can be positive to some animals, negative to others. Especially if they're migrating and their clue isn't how much snow is on the ground here—their clue is somewhere in Central America. And they come up here and their plants are up and gone. The fact is the climate's changing whether you like it or not, whether you believe it or not. Looking at my records—it's not a straight line. It's 40-some years, not 400, but it is information. Your records have received a lot of attention. Has that changed anything for you? I don't think so. It was entertaining to see that stuff on the Internet, especially since it came during the heavy snow periods—it was a nice diversion. I've been waiting for either Hollywood or Bollywood to call me, but they don't!

Hundreds of officers have been deployed in France, along with helicopters, to find and capture an armed suspect with a military background who fired shots at police and fled into a forest. The chase began around midnight when police were called in to respond to a family dispute in the small town of Le Lardin-Saint-Lazare in the country's Dordogne region. The suspect, a former soldier recently released from prison, arrived at the home of his former partner and attacked her new boyfriend, French media reported, citing police. The woman managed to escape. The suspect came outside and fired shots at police, damaging two vehicles. The ex-soldier then fled into the woods nearby. There were no reports of casualties. More than 300 officers, plus helicopters and a dog unit, were deployed to apprehend the suspect. A top official in Dordogne, Frederic Perissat, told BFM TV that police have secured the area and are hoping to "avoid bloodshed. " Regional police chief Andre Petillot said the suspect is "someone who knows the area well and adapts easily. "
