There wasn't a lot of information or testing out here in the blogging world on tinting your own wax, but I've seen a couple of reviews and blogs about it and I wanted to try it. According to what I had read, all I would need to do was add a little bit of paint to some clear wax, mix it together and I would be good to go. However, when I applied the colored wax to my piece I noticed right away that something was off. It wasn't coming off very pigmented or sticking to the piece well at all. In fact, when I wiped away the excess wax it almost all disappeared, barely leaving behind a trace. Upon further digging, I found that a few others had encountered the same issue. I'm not sure why it worked for some and not others. I suppose it could just be a matter of taste and preference. For me though, the diy version just didn't give me the amount of color pay off that I was wanting. I'm all for finding budget-friendly ways to get around buying the real deals, but only if the performance and quality are on the same level.
