Pigeon island is a national landmark in, declared in 1992 by the St. Lucian government. It's 44 acres and was originally surrounded by water until 1972 when it was artificially joined to the mainland. The island was originally inhabited by the Arawak people who then signed a peace treaty with the French leader Francois Le Clerc. England declared war on France in 1778 and attacked them in St. Lucia and invaded the island. Once they arrived however, Admiral Rodney expelled all the Arawak people and cut down all of the trees on Pigeon island so that he could spy on the French naval base in Martinique. In doing so, he was able to defeat them at the Battle of Saints in 1782. Pigeon Island is now open as a national park 365 days a year to visitors. The landmark still has an 18th-century theme to it while still keeping its natural beauty with its dry rain forests and grasslands. Visitors can learn more about Francois Le Clerc who had an actual wooden leg and they can learn how Pigeon Island was connected to the mainland in 1972.

The Povoa de Varzim coastline is characteristic of the Costa Verde region, with vast beaches, powerful Atlantic waters, and frequent bracing winds. Within walking distance of Povoa de Varzim town are two distinct sections of beach; the Avenida dos Banhos beaches, and Enseada da Lagoa (Logoa bay) beaches. These are the finest beaches of Povoa de Varzim and are free from the rocks and jagged outcrops that are found along the water's edge on most of the region's beaches. Wow, what a beach! The Praia Redonda The Enseada da Lagoa bay has softer sands At the southern end of the Avenida dos Banhos is the casino and main tourist centre of Povoa de Varzim, and is the closest beach to the metro station. Enseada da Lagoa has more apartments than hotels, but both sections of the beach will be busy during the summer months. The central beaches are ideal for families, and during the summer the waters are supervised by lifeguards. Further north the beaches become quieter, but there are rocks along the water's edge, making them not suitable for surfing or body boarding.

There is nothing particularly special that visitors need to bring to Strasbourg. Most visitors find that they do a lot of walking around the city, so it's a good idea to pack some comfortable footwear. Visitors who come in winter should bring a large coat for the cold Strasbourg weather at this time. Although the rainfall is low, showers are possible at any time, so visitors should even pack a light jacket in summer.
