Re: Sydney Weather End of August? spring is 1 Sept of course, but you generally don't get the feel of it until the day arrives. Often still pretty cool then but you get days where you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. August is generally our coldest month. We've had lovely sunny winters during the drought, but El Nina is back and this year is shaping up cold and wet. Sept and spring generally can also be pretty windy which can start giving a bit of a look in during Aug sometimes. 523 posts 4 reviews 11 helpful votes 2. Severe weather has lashed large parts of Australia's east coast, claiming the lives of at least two people in Victoria after flooding and heavy winds. An Antarctic air mass also brought snowfalls to parts of New South Wales as Sydney recorded its coldest day in 37 years on Thursday Victoria warned of further floods after Sydney records coldest day in 37 years

"Combienbar in particular had 23 millimetres of rain followed closely by Gelantipy with 22. 3 millimetres. " Weatherzone meteorologist Graeme Britton said showers and winds will hang around in New South Wales, as well as the coastal regions and Sydney. He said: "We can expect 5-10mm to fall in Sydney today and possibly the same tomorrow. A hazardous surf warning has been issued for Bronte Beach, in Sydney (Image: EPA) "These showers and windy gusts will drop the temperature briefly into the low double digits and will make it feel much colder. " Throughout the week, temperatures in Sydney will reach highs of 17 and 18, along with showers. However, the rain is forecast to clear to make way for milder and sunny conditions on Thursday. Tonight, there is a possibility of showers and lows of 11 and 12C, which could stick around for the rest of the week. Rain, gusty winds and snow are sweeping across eastern Australia (Image: WEATHERZONE) Weatherzone meteorologist Ben Domensino said the system has led to some places experiencing their coldest night in a decade.
Sydney's coldest day in decades Ben Domensino, 10 June 2021 Sydney just shivered through its coldest day in 37 years as icy winds blew across NSW. Clouds, rain and a freezing air mass wrapping around a large and slow-moving cut-off low pressure system prevented the temperature from getting any higher than 10. 3ºC at Sydney's Observatory Hill weather station on Thursday, as of 5pm AEST. Image: Enhanced water vapour satellite image showing the upper-level cut-off low over NSW on Thursday. If this temperature isn't exceeded by 9am on Friday, this will officially be Sydney's coldest day in 37 years. Based on the running maximum temperatures at 5pm, it was also the coldest day in 37 years at Inverell (6. 1ºC), 29 years at Mudgee (5. 9ºC) and 25 years at Sydney Airport (11. 4ºC). What makes today's cold weather in Sydney even more remarkable is that it occurred under predominantly northerly winds. Northerly winds usually drag warm air over Sydney from northern NSW or the Tasman Sea. But today, air wrapping around the large cut-off low meant that the air passing over Sydney from the north actually originated near Antarctica.
This same cut-off low also directed a stream of warmer, moisture-laden air into Victoria on Thursday. So, while Sydney was struggling to reach 10ºC under northerly winds, Melbourne spent much of the day around 14ºC in southerly winds. The cut-off low has also brought a substantial snow to some parts of NSW during the last couple of days, while rain caused major flooding in Victoria.
The New South Wales coast has had 15 millimetres of rain since 9am yesterday with Cronulla and the Northern Beaches being hit the hardest, both measuring 20 millimetres. "Sydney will continue to experience coastal thunderstorms on top of the rain as a low-pressure trough heads out to sea, " said Weatherzone's Craig McIntosh. Temperatures in Sydney are expected to reach a maximum of just 16 degrees today, but it could feel much colder if the freezing rains and bitter winds continue. The Bureau of Meteorology issued, and later retracted, a severe weather warning for damaging winds over the Hunter, Illawarra and Sydney regions this morning. Frost warnings have also been issued in Victoria and South Australia with Melbourne and Adelaide set to drop to just five degrees.
