Not as popular as its weather alert radio counterpart, a weather band radio does not automatically alert a user of severe weather. Instead, a weather band radio is tuned to a weather alert station and provides regular weather updates. Where and when to use your weather radio Not all weather radios are suitable for every situation. Some radios are lightweight, highly portable and intended for users to take with them during an emergency. Other weather radios for indoor use, sometimes referred to as desktop weather radios, provide updates and alerts from the NOAA. These models tend to be heavier and require a permanent power source such as a wall outlet. What to look for in a quality weather radio Alarms and alerts Public alert certification: To ensure your weather radio will reliably warn of severe weather in your region, make sure it has a public alert certification from the National Weather Service. Audible alarms: If you plan to use your weather radio as an early-warning system, find a model that has an alarm notification that will loudly notify you of severe weather even if the volume is low.

More swamp land to the the left of us. After only about 150 metres, we are at Garvey Park and appear alongside Ascot Kayak Club. Garvey park is a decent sized park, and always popular with families. Check it out if you've never been. There is a small island in the middle of the river here called Ron Courtney Island. We follow the path here, and pass some nice viewpoints along the river, and a lot of wetlands to our left again. We start getting glimpses of Tonkin Highway bridge now, meaning our walk is nearly over for the day. We go past Ayres Bushland to the left, before we get to a metal Boardwalk (metalwalk? ) taking us over more wetlands. Some great views from here. Before long, we are under the Tonkin Highway bridge where the path then ends, so we have to take a left onto Forbes Street. At the end of Forbes, we turn right onto Matheson Road, where the familiar little carpark at Worth Street greets us. Here: It's a strange place to have a carpark, and we were both wondering if there used to be some shops nearby, as there are some new houses being built on the other side of the road.
